Jennifer McCoy is a Master’s Level Counselor at Newtown Therapy and Wellness Center. Jennifer has over 20 years of experience working with teens and young adults within a school setting as a Counselor and Teacher. In these roles she has guided students through their mental health journeys to navigate the vast uncertainties of adolescence.
Jennifer has a wide range of experience working with teens and young adults with their anxiety, academic stress, friends, dating/relationships, family dynamics, sports pressure, ADHD and executive functioning, academic planning, and improving grades/study habits. Jennifer has considerable experience working with 504s and IEPs advocating for her students to get the services they need to thrive in an academic setting.
Jennifer continues working with her students and clients through the challenges of transitioning into college, navigating the complicated world of the college application process as students have to select their majors and future career decisions.She also works with young people as they transition into their adult lives post college.
As a mother herself, Jennifer has an insightful perspective when working with family dynamics. She allows a safe space for every member in the family to be heard and better understood. Seeking to reveal the underlying patterns that undermine the joy and function of the family unit. She guides families to adopt healthier strategies for interaction and communication using multiple empirical approaches.
In addition to young adults and family dynamics, Jennifer works with individuals on a variety of issues like Anxiety, ADHD, stress management, grief/loss, separation/divorce, relational issues, life change/transition, future planning, and executive function. She utilizes empirical therapeutic techniques of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT).
Jennifer earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Rutgers University and her Master’s Degree from The College of New Jersey. She is a local, living in Bucks County for the past 18 years and has three teen and young adult children. Jennifer is pre licensed and working toward licensure, practices under the supervision of Dr. Stacy Hunt & Dr. Kathryn Shipley and is in pursuit of Licensure (LPC).
