Richard Yahn, M.S., is a Master’s Level Counselor at Newtown Therapy and Wellness Center. Richard earned a Master of Counseling degree from Cairn University, and Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from La Salle University.
Richard is passionate about walking the journey with his clients, no matter where that path may lead. He works collaboratively, supporting clients as they grow, heal, and recover from a range of mental health concerns and trauma. He believes that the path of healing comes from discovering the underlying heart beliefs that influence our thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and desires. Richard creates a safe, non-judgmental space to embark upon the therapeutic journey.
Richard has a focus in marital, pre-marital, and relationship counseling (including relationships within the LGBTQ+ community). He helps couples connect and rebuild their relationship by developing a foundation of emotional safety that promotes healthy and effective communication. Richard assists the couple in developing tools that foster a foundation in which to have long-lasting healthy relationships.
He also works with individuals on a multitude of problems including mood spectrum disorders, ADD/ADHD, OCD, DID, anxiety, depression, dysthymia and anhedonia, addiction (sexual and drug/alcohol), and faith issues. Richard also enjoys working with clients through life transitions, career choices and changes, and life skills counseling. He works with clients of all ages and genders.
Richard designs a customized approach for each client that best serves their personal goals and needs. He incorporates empirically based treatment modalities: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Psychodrama, and Gestalt Therapeutic models.
Richard completed his Practicum and Internship at Oasis Counseling Center at Cairn University in Langhorne, PA and at Central Church in Ewing, NJ.
